Teaching and the way I see myself performing in this profession

Hey there! It's time for me to post again and by the title, you got an idea what is it about and I hope you all enjoy it. Let's get into it!

Teaching is a popular profession, but an underappreciated one. Teachers are the people who shape and inspire the next generation of scientists, inventors, writers, and artists. Without teachers, progress with knowledge and, technology would come to a standstill. Everything would come to a halt intellectually and technologically if there were no longer any teachers. They are under payed and often blamed for events that they have no control over, inside and outside of the classroom. In other countries such as Switzerland, teachers are as respected as lawyers and doctors, so why are the views so different in our country, in Albania? This is why I want to become a teacher, to help with the continuation of growth, the inspiration of children, and equal opportunities.

As a future teacher I am aware of the nobility and vital importance of my profession. I might not be paid as well as I should be, but that would not justify my indifference to my work. This attitude is certainly wrong. A teacher’s duty is not merely to teach the prescribed books or syllabus but his higher duty and privilege is to mould the minds of the young, to form their character, and kindle love of knowledge in them. I am aware of this great power of a teacher, the far reaching influence we are capable of exercising on the rising generation. Though its results are slow and imperceptible, this power is greater than that wielded by administrators and ministers. I would, therefore, put my heart into my work and strive not only to teach the prescribed course but to develop in my pupils the qualities of discipline, integrity and idealism. With this end in view I would read widely and collect a good stock of stories, jokes, anecdotes and quotations which, when aptly introduced in the course of one’s teaching, would make it enlivening and stimulating. Since example is better than precept, I would try to be a living embodiment of the thirst for knowledge and sterling qualities of character which I should like the young to cultivate.

Several teachers, do not pay individual attention to their students. Some teachers do not remember even the names of the boys and girls they teach. Naturally, a young pupil feels that he is a non entity in school. I would try to remember the names of all my pupils and recognize their individualizes. Thus they would develop self respect and pride and endeavour to improve themselves. Some students are inevitably slow on the uptake, but I am going to treat them with sympathy and patience. I will maintain discipline in my classes, but not with sternness and threats of punishment. Discipline inspired from within is better than discipline imposed from without.

I don’t just want to inspire children to become teachers or educators, I want to help them realize what they want to do with their lives. Realistically, I know that any decision they make in my classroom will most likely change numerous times through the rest of their life, but helping them make their first real decision of a true job or profession would be an amazing opportunity. Their brains can’t be idle, I'm going to inspire them to enjoy coming to school and learning new material every day, by designing activities that are fun, but still make their brains work for the answer. Sometimes the best way to teach children is by having them learn without them realizing they are in the first place. Pupils don’t enjoy sitting at their desks all day and taking notes. Making learning fun and interactive is the best way to help kids stay interested during the lesson.

Opportunities for equal educational experiences may not exist, however the beauty lies in the growth of love young students can develop as they are challenged in the classroom to question their surroundings. I plan to make a difference in the lives of the children I meet along the way, and to create a safe learning environment. Although the tests for certification and studies can be difficult, my passion for education and dedication to shaping the lives of my students is what keeps me going. The end goal is to nurture the development of my students to become active and engaged participants in society, and that is what I intend to do completely.

I want to teach others about the importance of education so they too can prosper. Everything I learned at university, and I'm learning during my master, is important for my future career and, if I don’t study it, I’m failing my future students. Every child deserves the best education available and I should strive to be the best educator possible to provide that for them. When balancing academics, work, and my social life, it can get challenging to keep going. But, with the future of children’s education in my hands, I always get back on track.

In short, the image of myself I should like to build up in the students’ mind would be that of a friend, philosopher, and guide.

Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comment section. Thank you! :)

  1. Hello! It makes me really happy everytime I read about the sensibility of the future teachers on the importance of their profession. Being down to earth and open minded about our job's impact makes us more productive and conscious of our everyday actions and behaviors on the workplace. Your overall ides and writing is truthfully inspiring and brings us hope that the upcoming generations will be in safe hands. Congrats on that.

Cooperative Learning

What is cooperative learning? What role does it have in teaching and what are some examples of it? All of these questions will be answered in today’s blog. As we learned from our last lecture cooperative learning is an instructional strategy encouraged in many learning institutions, where students are often asked to make groups and work together on a standard task, as it requires participation and cooperation. Despite the various learning strategies adopted in schools, cooperative learning has been identified as the most effective of all. This strategy of instruction and learning has been adequately adopted in many academic institutions also as corporate institutions for educating people. To be cooperative, to reach the full potential of the group, five essential elements need to be carefully structured into the situation: positive interdependence, individual and group accountability, promotive interaction, appropriate use of social skills, and group processing. For students who learn ...

Final Project

Hey everyone! Since this week’s topic is at our hands again, I’m going to give a detailed description of our final project, which by now you all have seen and took part in, but also those that didn’t have the chance to be present can read about it. Let me describe what it included, how it went, the difficulties we encountered, how did we feel and why was interactive PPT so helpful. The night before the presentation we practiced a lot and felt confident about the content and time management. The PPT presentation included many animations and transitions, which made the lesson better and more interactive and this way kept the students focused and grabbed their attention at all time. It was rather difficult getting everything perfect and according to our liking, because after all there is always place for improvement. The content was well thought and organized: the first slide included opening the lesson with a welcoming phrase written on an animated black board; the second slide held the ...

Using Technology Tools in PBL

Hello everyone, hope you’re doing great! So lets get started on todays topic, and by the title you already have an idea what is gonna be about.  Successful technology integration is more than just getting the tools into the classroom. Throughout the learning process, technology is used to acquire, organize, demonstrate, and communicate in student-teacher relation. Integration of technology into each stage of the project creates a meaningful learning experience. Effective tech integration changes classroom dynamics, encouraging student-centered project-based learning. PBL challenges students to design and engage in more authentic, extended, and complex learning. But while PBL is a trusted strategy for increasing student engagement and learning, it's not easy to orchestrate. There are tons of moving pieces, and if you're doing it right, students will be engaging in a variety of interest-driven projects all with various needs and on different schedules. So how do you manage it all...
