The impact of technology in education and our expectations on the course

How important is technology in education, how big and what kind of an impact does it have? The COVID-19 pandemic is quickly demonstrating why online education should be a vital part of teaching and learning. By integrating technology into existing curricula, as opposed to using it solely as a crisis-management tool, teachers can harness online learning as a powerful educational tool.

Opportunities for communication have also been expanded by technology. Traditionally, classrooms have been relatively isolated, and collaboration has been limited to other students in the same classroom or building. The effective use of digital learning tools in classrooms can increase student engagement, help teachers improve their lesson plans, and facilitate personalized learning. Virtual classrooms, videos, robots, and other technology tools can not only make the class more lively, but they can also create more inclusive learning environments that foster collaboration and enable teachers to collect data on student performance.

However, while some students thrive in online education settings, others lag for various factors, including support resources. For example, a student who already struggled in face-to-face environments may struggle even more in the current situation, and I say this based on the fact that I have seen how hard is for some students to get all that is required.

Still, most students typically demonstrate confidence in using online education when they have the resources. However, online education may pose challenges for teachers, especially in places where it has not been the norm.

Despite the challenges and concerns, it’s important to note the impact of technology in education has been mostly positive, including increased collaboration and communication, improving quality of education, and engaging lessons that help spark imagination and a search for knowledge in students. And since this course deals in depth about technology in EFL I have to say my expectations are high, so when someone asks me about a term or arguments about this, I can be able to elaborate it in details, be confident about what am I speaking and get a deeper view of how it will help me as a future English teacher.

Cooperative Learning

What is cooperative learning? What role does it have in teaching and what are some examples of it? All of these questions will be answered in today’s blog. As we learned from our last lecture cooperative learning is an instructional strategy encouraged in many learning institutions, where students are often asked to make groups and work together on a standard task, as it requires participation and cooperation. Despite the various learning strategies adopted in schools, cooperative learning has been identified as the most effective of all. This strategy of instruction and learning has been adequately adopted in many academic institutions also as corporate institutions for educating people. To be cooperative, to reach the full potential of the group, five essential elements need to be carefully structured into the situation: positive interdependence, individual and group accountability, promotive interaction, appropriate use of social skills, and group processing. For students who learn ...

Final Project

Hey everyone! Since this week’s topic is at our hands again, I’m going to give a detailed description of our final project, which by now you all have seen and took part in, but also those that didn’t have the chance to be present can read about it. Let me describe what it included, how it went, the difficulties we encountered, how did we feel and why was interactive PPT so helpful. The night before the presentation we practiced a lot and felt confident about the content and time management. The PPT presentation included many animations and transitions, which made the lesson better and more interactive and this way kept the students focused and grabbed their attention at all time. It was rather difficult getting everything perfect and according to our liking, because after all there is always place for improvement. The content was well thought and organized: the first slide included opening the lesson with a welcoming phrase written on an animated black board; the second slide held the ...

Using Technology Tools in PBL

Hello everyone, hope you’re doing great! So lets get started on todays topic, and by the title you already have an idea what is gonna be about.  Successful technology integration is more than just getting the tools into the classroom. Throughout the learning process, technology is used to acquire, organize, demonstrate, and communicate in student-teacher relation. Integration of technology into each stage of the project creates a meaningful learning experience. Effective tech integration changes classroom dynamics, encouraging student-centered project-based learning. PBL challenges students to design and engage in more authentic, extended, and complex learning. But while PBL is a trusted strategy for increasing student engagement and learning, it's not easy to orchestrate. There are tons of moving pieces, and if you're doing it right, students will be engaging in a variety of interest-driven projects all with various needs and on different schedules. So how do you manage it all...
